I Married
a Monster
from Outer
Space
Director:
Gene Fowler, Jr.
1958
| Gloria Talbott was sexy and a little bit sinister even when she was playing a good girl. When she was playing a bad girl, as in 1959's Girls Town, where she had to get tough with Mamie Van Doren, she was just plain scary. We all knew somebody like Gloria in high school, which is rather unfortunate because this may have prevented us from truly appreciating her unique presence as she turned up in film after film from the early 1950s to the mid-1960s. Gloria was all over the map back then, appearing in everything from Jane Wyman soap operas to Russ Tamblyn westerns to really tacky John Agar horror movies, and although she was never nominated for the Oscars and Nobel prizes she so richly deserved, she did earn herself a substantial cult following that continues to this day. |

Gloria Talbott
| Unquestionably, Gloria Talbott's most famous role was the female lead in 1958's legendary I Married a Monster from Outer Space, a sci-fi classic that surprisingly has never been remade. We think the original script could easily have been rewritten just a little bit and maybe used for the fourth film in that silly Alien series, which ran out of interesting ideas long ago. Just imagine Sigourney Weaver going to live on the alien planet and finding herself married to one of those huge creepy crawlers she's always battling. Of course, the whole thing would have to be told from the creepy crawler's point of view, with poor Sigourney cast as the actual monster from outer space. But we digress . . . |
