Jeff Richards
1922-????
| In films of the mid-1950s, they didn't come much hunkier than Jeff Richards and he was all over the place screen-wise. In 1953's hunkfest Code Two he even got to share the screen with our other favorite hunk, Ralph Meeker, as well as Robert Horton and James Craig. From the late forties to the late fifties Jeff Richards seemed to be working constantly, but nothing could turn him into a major star, not even appearances in big pictures like Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) and The Opposite Sex (1956), or having his own TV series, the short-lived Jefferson Drum (1958-1959). After that there were few roles and Jeff Richards just sort of disappeared the way so many do. Or did he? According to IMDb his last two films were Goldy: The Last of the Golden Bears (1984) and Goldy 2: The Last of the Golden Bears (1986), and IMDb gives his death year as 1989. However, a 1992 book called Dreamboats: Hollywood Hunks of the '50s, by Maria Ciaccia, suggested that Mr. Richards, in 1992 at least, wasn't dead at all, but was "in hiding." Granted, having Goldy 2: The Last of the Golden Bears on one's resume would send pretty much any of us into desperate seclusion, but really, anybody who filled Buck Winston's jeans so well has nothing to fear image-wise as long as there is eternal film . . . and the Meeker Museum. |
