Sandra Dee
1942-2005

There were starlets who made good and then there was Sandra Dee, who for a time in the early sixties was one of the biggest stars in the universe. (For all we know, she may still be -- alien races in distant solar systems may still be trying to figure out the intricacies of Tammy Tell Me True.) It's fairly unusual for pretty blonde starlets to attain that level of success, but Sandra Dee is one who did -- her very name is emblematic of an era and a certain phase of movies, maybe several phases. She was the original Gidget, a more than worthy Tammy successor (to Debbie Reynolds), and she also got to marry a rock and roll idol Bobby Darin! And if that wasn't enough to assure her status as a bona fide Hollywood legend, Sandra Dee also got to hone her craft by working in movies with practically everyone who was anyone, including Troy Donahue, Doug McClure, Gigi Perreau, Beulah Bondi, Constance Ford, John Saxon, Peter Fonda, Luana Patten, Susan Kohner, Yvonne Craig and, of course, James Darren. Pretty good for a girl who was born with the name "Alexandra Zuck."
