| You don't have to describe her and you don't have to defend her, because everybody knows who she is and everybody likes her. This may have something to do with Troy Donahue movies and the fact that she was once married to the guy, or it may have something to do with her particularly memorable niche in TV history as a part of the Bob Newhart Show ensemble. Mainly, though, her ongoing popularity has to do with the fact that when she shows up on screen you instantly recognize her -- the voice, the demeanor, the attitude -- and you can't take your eyes off her. Pity any other actress who plays a scene with Suzanne Pleshette, and while you're at it pity Hollywood for never figuring out how to make this unique performer into a monumental superstar. |

| Suzanne Pleshette's numerous television credits date from the late 1950s and include guest appearances on Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Route 66, Dr. Kildare, The Fugitive and many other programs of the 50s and 60s. Later she starred in at least two dozen made-for-TV movies and miniseries. She is probably best known for her portrayal of Emily Hartley in The Bob Newhart Show (1972-1976), and she received an Emmy nomination for playing the title role in 1990's Leona Helmsley: The Queen of Mean. |
